FORTY-THREE

Week Forty-Three – Dear Eyes

So this was one of those weeks where I wrote this song specifically for someone. You always think ‘is it good enough?’ every time I listen back to it with fresh ears I think ‘what a lovely song’

Dear eyes, I’m waiting
You’re always, always searching for me
My eyes might tell you

I’m tired, of hiding
My body is yours to bleed
I’ll shield you from all your demons

So fall now into darkness and the light
and follow, I’ve got you;
keep us safe all through the night.
You’ll be alright

Dear eyes, I thank you
I adore you, how to make you believe
I’ll shead all my expectations

I feel, you know me, you’re needed,
in the heart that you see
It’s yours, it will always love you.

So fall now into darkness and the light
and follow, I’ve got you;
keep us safe all through the night.
You’ll be alright, I know.

The idea was a write a nice gentle song that had some real unique elements to it. So not just a nice standard piano ballad or a straight strummed guitar track with smooth vocals. Even the lyrics are a little quirky. There are a few people that thought I was singing ‘Deer Eyes’ not ‘Dear eyes’. It’s a good thing I put the lyrics up here so people can see what they are. I’d hate to think that everyone assumed I thought someone looked like a deer.

There was a slightly different mic’ing technique on the guitar this week as well. I’m finding that recording the acoustic in stereo is always preferable unless it’s mixed within a fuller sounding track where the stereo image is less noticeable. I find when it’s just solo guitar or when it’s a feature, the sense of space and air that capturing the guitar in stereo creates is subtle but really wonderful.
